I know it has been a while since I posted anything, but I would like to share some exciting news. First of all, I have decided to take the plunge and freelance full time. I am now working on a voluntary basis with two independent presses: Green Writers Press and Microcosm Publishing. In addition, one of my clients just published a wonderful biography I helped edit. Banned for Life, The Steve Mullings Story is available now on
Amazon.com. I recommend this book to anyone who has overcome adversity in their lives and who beat the odds and won!!!
I would also like to mention a wonderful blogger and fellow proofreader, Louise Harnby. For those of you who do not know who this woman is, Louise is a professional proofreader based in England who also maintains a kick-ass website filled with tons of advice for newbies as well as seasoned professionals working in the editorial field. Without her splendid advice, I would not have been able to take that first step into "the unknown." Check out her website: www.louisharnbyproofreader.com.
Speaking of first steps, going forward as a freelancer in this weird economic structure has challenged me in more ways than one. After losing my day job four months ago, I have decided to defy the odds and create my own opportunities. You cannot wait for someone else to claim your destiny. You have to put yourself out there, whether it be cold-calling a potential client or using social media. It's called networking. And so far, it has worked for me!!!
Until next time....Peace!!!
